Compost Day 2023
Compost Day is Saturday, April 1 during normal opening hours. Compost can be picked up at all ARGO's recycling centres, with the exception of Bjæverskov. It is also possible to pick up compost at Audebo environmental centre (Hagesholmvej 7, 4520 Svinninge). NOTE: Store Heddinge recycling centre and Høng recycling centre have compost day on Sunday, April 2. NB: The free compost is while stocks last.
In keeping with tradition, ARGO invites you to Compost Day at its recycling centres on the Saturday before Easter. It is usually a busy and good day, with more trailers than usual making their way past one of ARGO's recycling centres.
What is compost and what are its properties
The compost supplied in ARGO is pure garden park compost, which is produced by a "mile" composting process from Solum. The compost mile is built up from branches, leaves, etc. from an entire year, which ensures a consistent quality. During composting, the temperature rises to a level where weed seeds and plant diseases are destroyed. The compost bed is turned a few times during the year to ensure that all outer layers are heated.
Compost should be mixed with other soil
Compost can be too heavy to plant directly in, so it is recommended that the compost is mixed with other soil before filling it into pots or a new raised bed. In some places, the compost is mixed with sand, which makes it less dense. In these cases, the soil can be used directly wherever you want.
Compost in large quantities
In total, 5,000 tonnes of compost will be delivered to the recycling centres. At each centre there will be an area where the pile of compost will be available. It's a good idea to bring your own broom and shovel, as the sets available at the recycling centres can easily be occupied by other citizens with the same purpose.
