Does your garden need extra nourishment?

Grab a shovel, hitch up the trailer and pick up free compost for your garden at one of our recycling centres when we invite you to Compost Day every year on the weekend before Easter.

What is Compost Day?

Compost Day is from 9:00 to 17:00 every year on the weekend before Easter. And for us, it's the first spring marker of the year. Full of springtime gardeners with lots of green projects on their to-do list.

We unload a large pile of compost at each of the recycling centres where we have a compost day. A total of approximately 5,000 tonnes of compost that you can just shovel away.

Three things you need to know before you leave home:

  1. We have shovels and brooms you can borrow on site, but we still recommend that you bring your own
  2. Make room for those around you - there's usually enough compost for everyone
  3. The compost is very powerful! Read our guide below before using the compost

How to use our compost

  • The nutrients in the compost are so powerful that they can 'burn off' new seeds and plants if you plant directly in the compost
  • You should therefore mix the compost with the existing soil before planting new plants in it
  • Spread no more than a 4-5 cm layer of the compost and rake it well into the existing soil
  • You can also spread a few centimeters of compost over your vegetable garden, lawn or perennial beds and leave it to fertilize the soil
